Hi JNFB,
You draw some thought-provoking parallels, thereby making valid arguments. Excellent!

while i wholeheartedly will not support a governmental ban on jws or any other religion for that matter, i find the latest topic at www.jw-media.org a bit ironic.
the title is:.
expression of christian faith is basis for criminal prosecution in russia.

Hi JeffT,
I'm certain you are very proud of him as I would be.

hi,.
i need to obtain scans of the following pages, and i would be deeply grateful if someone can help me.. anchor bible dictionary, volume 6 pages 392-393 ("tetragrammaton in the new testament", article by george howard.).
if anyone can help me, it would probably be best to send me a pm, so i can pass on my email address.. doug.
Hi Doug,
For what it's worth --
One reference to Anchor Bible Dictionary in WT pubs follows:
*** w08 8/1 p. 22 Should the Name Jehovah Appear in the New Testament? ***
Interestingly, under the heading "Tetragrammaton in the New Testament," The Anchor Bible Dictionary makes this comment: "There is some evidence that the Tetragrammaton, the Divine Name, Yahweh, appeared in some or all of the O[ld] T[estament] quotations in the N[ew] T[estament] when the NT documents were first penned."
However, the very person who initiated that theory made a disclaimer directly after. The following, from Wikipedia, under heading "Tetragrammaton in the New Testament", says
"George Howard set forth this hypothesis that YHWH appeared originally in the New Testament and that "the removal of the Tetragrammaton from the New Testament and its replacement with the surrogates kyrios and theos blurred the original distinction between the Lord God and the Lord Christ."[3] The weight of this position led to its inclusion in the article of the Anchor Bible Dictionary, where it is stated: "There is some evidence that the Tetragrammaton, the Divine Name, Yahweh, appeared in some or all of the OT quotations in the NT when the NT documents were first penned."[4] As it is a relatively recent thesis on an ever-changing field of study, it has not yet found wide acceptance, and Howard has qualified it: "My theory about the Tetragrammaton is just that, a theory. Some of my colleagues disagree with me (for example Albert Pietersma). Theories like mine are important to be set forth so that others can investigate their probability and implications. Until they are proven (and mine has not been proven) they should not be used as a surety for belief."[5]"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetragrammaton_in_the_New_Testament

Hi JeffT,
There are many types of leukemia. Treatments for each, if even possible, varies tremendously. Perhaps quoting from that link will help you understand:
The breakthrough means perfectly matched blood could be made to order for patients who have lost the ability to make their own as a result of leukaemia or chemotherapy
The new technique can make both red and white blood cells from skin cells. Scientists have turned clumps of human skin into blood cells in a feat that could revolutionise cancer therapy and the treatment of blood disorders such as anaemia.
Patients who need blood for surgery or a medical condition could have a healthy supply created for transfusion by using a patch of their own skin, researchers said.
The technique could benefit patients with leukaemia, for example, by providing them with a source of blood that exactly matches their biological make-up. Similar transfusions might help other cancer patients endure chemo- and radiotherapy, which has the side effect of destroying the body's blood-making cells.
Researchers at McMaster University in Ontario took skin cells from adults and newborn babies and converted them into blood cells by adding a gene called OCT4 along with some chemicals known as blood growth factors.
Depending on the chemicals used, the skin cells became various kinds of cell that together make up healthy blood. They included early stage red blood cells, which carry oxygen around the body, white blood cells, which fight infection, and platelets that enable blood to clot.
"If the patient has anaemia, they only need red blood cells, so we can change the recipe and make those. If we wanted to treat someone with a blood coagulation disorder, we change the recipe again and make platelets," said Mickie Bhatia, scientific director at the university's Stem Cell and Cancer Research Institute.
The team, whose work is published in the journal Nature, is the first to show it is possible to convert human skin cells directly into blood. "We have shown this works using human skin. We know how it works and believe we can even improve on the process," said Bhatia.
Cynthia Dunbar of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute in Maryland, said producing blood from a patient's own skin cells had the potential to make bone marrow transplants and a shortage of blood donors "a thing of the past".
"I see our first patients as being leukaemia patients. If we can take skin cells from them and turn them into healthy blood, the product could outcompete the leukaemic cells," Bhatia told the Guardian.
"More importantly, I can see this blood being used for anyone undergoing cancer therapy. Chemotherapy and radiation affect the blood system, so even though the therapy is targeting a tumour, the patient usually has to withdraw because the blood system dies as an innocent bystander. We hope our technique will provide an alternative blood source that is healthy and allows them to continue therapy and eradicate the tumour."
The team is now developing ways to produce large volumes of blood by growing patients' cells in the lab before converting them into blood cells. In further tests, the scientists will freeze and thaw the blood, with a view to keeping it in cold storage.
has anyone done this, seen it happen, or heard of it happening?
with what results?.
Littletoe and his bride were married near Dallas in a Scottish type ceremony. You'll see him beside his bride (closed eyes) wearing kilt, as did his attendants. It was a fun event.

to those of you who've never used google's free telephone directory assistance (1-800-goog-411) you may as well forget it.
that service ends november 11 but another one had already been waiting in the wings.
for me, google's free directory assistance (1-800-goog-411) had been a great ride especially when on a road trip.
It was like having an 18-wheeler stuffed with the yellow pages from every city in the U.S. tagging along. Wish to find a restaurant, motel, golf driving range, Home Depot, etc.? -- the friendly automated voice recognition robot took you by the hand, even dialing the number for you. Sure, my Garmin navigator had been fairly good with it's "points of interest" locator. However, it wasn't comprehensive by any means -- and, because I haven't updated my system in a few years, it hasn't been fresh with the latest "points". (after my first update, costing some $60, I realized they're really not as eager at keeping things current -- they still don't show our McDonald's here in Camden and it's been here for nearly 30 years.) Why am I sharing information about Google's dying service? Because I just discovered that Microsoft's equivalent BING 411 (1-800-246-4411) had been available but I didn't realize that until now. And after reading the following review it appears that I will put that number in my phone directory in place of the Google version. Check it out for yourself: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2348147,00.asp Cheers, Len
This is the only instance I could find in WT pubs with reference to terms Franz and Rhodes.
*** the Proclaimers book, chap. 9 p. 111 Jehovah’s Word Keeps Moving Speedily (1976-1992) ***
Frederick William Franz was born in Covington, Kentucky, U.S.A., on September 12, 1893. In 1899 the family moved to Cincinnati, where Frederick graduated from high school in 1911. He then entered the University of Cincinnati, taking a liberal arts course. He had decided that he would become a Presbyterian preacher, so he vigorously applied himself to the study of Bible Greek. At the university Frederick was chosen to receive a Rhodes scholarship, qualifying him for admission to Oxford University in England. However, before an announcement could be made, Frederick lost all interest in the scholarship and asked that his name be dropped from the list of contestants.
As the earlier quoted contents of this thread indicates, their claim was only that he was chosen but then turned it down.

on page 97 in the reasoning book it states: " before the last members of the generation that was alive in 1914 will have passed off the scene, all the things foretold will occur, including the "great tribulation" in which the present wicked world will end.".
if you have a reasoning book pick it up!!!!!!
Ah, yes, bro WasBlind -- your point is well taken. I understand, and it's a good one.
However (as he takes another one of his rebuttal arrows out of his quiver) our "new light alibi" allows us to re-define certain (if not all) of our teachings (it's like that American Express advertisement -- we never leave home without it). "The generation" teaching used to be defined exactly as you quote from the Reasoning book. Not any longer as it's been revised because of "new light". Oh, we haven't got around to updating that publication as yet but we will thanks to your calling our attention to this instance. By the way, if you know of any other instances, please pass them along. The sheeples will appreciate our consistent alterations as well.
That's what publishers like us are good at doing, we go in and alter the publication and thanks to computers (and our much-used alibi) it's quite easy these days, thanks to Jehovah. Oh, and Fred would be real proud -- and relieved, I might add.

Playing the devil's advocate, the Reasoning book is still correct since "this generation" has been re-defined to include two (for now -- with new light they'll spin it to three at the appropriate time) generations.

can someone please remind me how they explain the need for a secret elders book to the r & f?
my jw has given numerous convoluted reasons over the years and i have forgotten the official reasoning.
on one hand they claim no clergy class, we are all the same, blah, blah, yet they have only one book the r & f (particularly women) cannot see.
Hi Magwitch,
You have a PM.
